Jenna and I were talking about the blog this morning. She thinks that I cover the stuff I choose to talk about pretty well (perhaps too well – I seem long-winded even to myself); but she wants to know why I’m not posting more about current events and such. “You’re always bursting with opinions about everything. Isn’t sharing them why people make blogs? Talk about the tsunami or something.”
She does have a point: in real life I’m even more of a smartass than I am here, if someone gives me an ear. But how much of that does a stranger really want to hear? I may be the only blogger left who isn’t talking the Southeast Asia disaster right now, but that’s because I’ve got nothing new to say. You’ve heard all you need. If you’ve got money and you haven’t donated at least a little of it yet, then my pleas (or insults – I can think of some choice lines) aren’t going to push you over the edge. You’ve had a thousand good reasons already.
Politics? Yeah, I’ve got mine. When I feel the need, I’ll spout, though you’re probably better off getting your sarcasm from, say, Scalzi. Right now there’s nothing going on. Bush is in charge, and he’s more of an asshole than half the country thinks he is, but doesn’t drink the blood of newborn babes as the other half claims. I cast myabsentee vote for Kerry. He lost. I got over it.
You can hear things like that all over the place. But the stuff that’s all about me? And Callie, and Jon & Jenna, and the weird shit we live with every day? (Or that, occasionally, comes looking for us?) Wonkette’s got nothing on that, baby. She’ll never tell you why invisible children never learn to tie shoes. On that, I’ve got things to say. And if you’ve heard it before I’d surely like to know where.
